Champions Online – Kitty’s Lightning Reflexes Build

Lightning

Quick demo of a Lightning Reflexes build. 100% dodge is possible but knocks keep interrupting it so you can’t really maintain 100% on Gravitar 🙁 Still, very nice damage mitigation and an amazing passive for solo survivability. I wouldn’t recommend for tanking though, Thundering Kicks isn’t very good for drawing aggro. Especially when you’re backflipping every 8 seconds.

Breakdown

Here’s a bit of the thought process that went into Kitty’s build. As her name implies, she’s a kitty, so she’s going to need amazing agility. I went for 100% dodge, so these were non-negotiable:

  1. Thundering Kicks
  2. Evasive Maneuvers
  3. Lightning Reflexes (LR)
  4. And the Primary Defense item, Legion’s Breastplate of Elusiveness.

To support Thundering Kicks, the only offensive Form that would work would be Form of the TempestForm of the Master could work too, but it assumes you have aggro, and with Thundering Kicks and lots of backflipping, getting aggro isn’t guaranteed.

Additionally, Evasive Maneuvers has a short cooldown, so Molecular Self-Assembly (MSA) is a logical energy unlock.

With Form of the Tempest, one of her superstats would have to be Dexterity. With MSA, another superstat would have to be Intelligence. And since this is a defense-oriented character with energy more or less covered, Constitution was the next stat to look at. Strength would have been nice to fit in there because knocks are an issue, but the other stats took priority for me.

Next comes the other layers of defense. I thought the Armadillo Secondary Set was perfect for LR: 25% resistance even on non-dodges was just too good to pass up. There’s also Force Shield with the Force Sheathe advantage for additional resistance and energy generation.

For healing, Bountiful Chi Resurgence (BCR) with Resurgent Reiki was a must-have just because of the sheer frequency of dodges, but I went for Conviction as well, and use that as a main heal to avoid the damage penalty of BCR. Incidentally, both heals work very well with MSA.

Thunderbolt Lunge is mostly there for a quick/lazy return after Evasive Maneuvers. Ego Surge and Masterful Dodge are staples that don’t need much explanation. Masterful Dodge is especially nice for moments when you need to dodge and you’re not at 100% dodge for whatever reason though.

Throw FireFire Breath and Flashfire are there because… I had a brain fart >_> Kitty is freshly-rerolled after 333 days of inactivity, and her old staple powers, Quarry and Throwing Blades, were nerfed pretty hard. She originally had lightning attacks just to play up the lightning-fast angle, but that didn’t really work out, so I chose Flashfire because it triggered MSA, then picked her main AoE to match that. On hindsight I’d consider StrafeTorrent of Arrows and Storm of Arrows.

And there you have an LR build!
